Radboudumc Launches Innovative Autoscriber Pilot Integrated into EPIC EHR

Evaluating the Impact of Ambient Listening Technology in Clinical Practice Across 10 specialisations

Radboudumc, a leading university medical center in the Netherlands, has initiated a groundbreaking pilot in collaboration with Autoscriber, a leading AI-driven digital scribe solution. Initiated by Marja de Waal, over the course of three months, ten different medical specialists will evaluate the impact of Autoscriber’s Ambient Listening technology seamlessly integrated into the EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

This pilot marks a significant step in the adoption of AI-powered ambient documentation, allowing healthcare professionals to focus entirely on patient interactions while Autoscriber automatically generates structured medical notes in real-time. By reducing administrative workload, the technology aims to improve workflow efficiency, enhance documentation quality, and reduce physician burnout.

Driving AI capabilities in Healthcare Documentation

The pilot at Radboudumc will assess several key factors:

  • Accuracy & Completeness Evaluating the precision of automatically generated clinical notes and their adherence to structured documentation standards.
  • Time Savings Measuring the reduction in time spent on documentation and administrative tasks.
  • User Experience Gathering feedback from healthcare professionals regarding usability, integration, and impact on patient care.
  • EHR Integration Efficiency Assessing the seamless incorporation of Autoscriber within the EPIC environment to ensure a frictionless workflow.

A Collaborative Approach to AI-Powered Healthcare

The collaboration between Radboudumc and Autoscriber is a testament to the increasing role of AI in modern healthcare. By embedding ambient listening technology directly within EPIC, the pilot will showcase how AI can assist medical professionals without disrupting existing clinical workflows. The Integration is created by Founda, in close collaboration with the IT team of Radboudumc, EPIC and Autoscriber

“Our mission is to leverage AI-driven solutions to alleviate the documentation burden on healthcare professionals, allowing them to dedicate more time to patient care. This pilot with Radboudumc represents a pivotal moment in demonstrating the real-world impact of Autoscriber’s ambient listening technology within a major hospital setting,”

Next Steps & Future Outlook

Upon completion of the pilot, Radboudumc and Autoscriber will analyse results to determine the effectiveness of the solution.

Besides the Radboudumc pilot, Autoscriber is currently used and evaluated at multiple clinical sites to pave the way for broader adoption of AI-powered ambient listening technologies in clinical practice.
